The VirtualWisdom® Platform Appliance (Model 4210), is the industry’s first purpose-built, enterprise-class, Infrastructure Performance Management (IPM) appliance that collects real-time data and correlates VM server, SAN network, and I/O metrics from the Virtual Server Probe, Network Switch Probe, and “off-the-wire” from the hardware Performance Probe into a complete view of end-to-end system between virtual machines and the storage environment.
The VirtualWisdom® SAN Performance Probe (Models ProbeFC8, ProbeFC8-HD or ProbeFC8-HD48) supports Fibre Channel SANs at speeds for up to 8 Gbps. The solution helps to redefine Performance Management by providing detailed measurement and statistics about storage I/O traffic as it relates to an application server, storage subsystem, remote replication, virtual or other key SAN devices, or applications. The SAN Performance Probe detects application performance slowdowns by measuring every SCSI I/O transaction from start to finish, for both reads and writes. Exchange Completion Time (ECT) metrics are maintained for every server/volume combination (initiator/target/LUN). A single SAN Performance Probe can be dedicated to simultaneously monitor up to 8, 16, or 48 fibre channel links based on the model type. The 3-tiered SAN Performance Probe family has been developed to meet the changing needs and architectural requirements the next generation data center.
This software probe is integrated with VMware vCenter, and collects and presents over 170 performance and utilization metrics from the associated VMware estate—including CPU utilization and status, memory utilization, disk I/O requests and capacity, as well as network requests and utilization by Virtual Machine, ESX Host and Cluster. The metrics are persisted and correlated with data from other VirtualWisdom probes to build a complete picture of the end-to-end system for each virtual machine or physical server.
The Network Switch ProbeSW is an agentless software probe that gathers switch performance and link error statistics in a non-intrusive manner. These critical switch statistics are collected by VirtualWisdom’s platform software, correlated with other metrics, and presented to the user in an easy-to-use, configurable, graphical user interface. Using VirtualWisdom’s Network Switch Probe results in comprehensive visibility and optimal infrastructure utilization—helping administrators substantially improve data availability and application performance through correlation techniques that help quickly troubleshoot, and even avoid emergent problems.
ProbeNTAP is the first of many storage array software probes that will help provide additional visibility into how the storage array is impacting the end-to-end system performance. ProbeNTAP is an agentless NAS storage software probe that collects and calculates health and utilization data from the underlying NAS arrays (NetApp OnTAP8 Clustered Systems).
Virtual Instruments’ SANInsight TAP Patch Panel System integrates Traffic Access Points (TAPs) with best-of-breed fiber patch panel components to make fiber cable deployments more manageable and maintainable. TAPs transparently provide a passive, out-of-band, full line rate copy of all traffic to VirtualWisdom’s SAN Performance Probes. Industry best practices suggest that Installing TAPs when the physical layer is initially deployed provides immediate monitoring access for both reactive troubleshooting and proactive performance management, capacity planning, and cost optimization. The TAP Patch Panel System provides a broad range of streamlined options for implementing TAPs into both new and existing cable plants.
