VMWORLD SURVEY SHOWS PERFORMANCE CONCERNS CURTAILING VIRTUALIZATION DEPLOYMENTS FOR MISSION-CRITICAL APPLICATIONS

Print Version

VMworld, SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 2nd, 2009 –Virtual Instruments, a leader in virtual infrastructure optimization, today announced the results of a survey that found a growing adoption of virtualization for business critical applications and a high penetration of server virtualization in general. The results of the survey show 69% of respondents have deployed less than 50% of their business critical applications on virtual servers. The survey indicated that performance concerns were the main factor stopping increased deployment of virtualized business-critical applications and were cited as the primary concern five times more frequently than any other issue. The survey had over 200 participants and was conducted onsite during VMworld in San Francisco on September 1st.

The survey participants were also asked to identify the key secrets of virtualization they wish they had known before beginning their projects. The top two secrets are: (1) Plan for the potential negative application performance impacts of virtualization and (2) Be prepared for expanding requirements for storage systems monitoring.

Key findings of the survey include:

“Global 2000 companies are clearly motivated to virtualize business critical IO intensive applications,” said Mark Urdahl, chief executive officer, Virtual Instruments “Our findings indicate there is an essential requirement for performance monitoring and management solutions to enable companies to virtualize business critical applications with confidence.”

CEO Mark Urdahl will be discussing how Virtual Instrument’s VirtualWisdom is addressing these concerns at a VMworld “Infrastructure Performance Panel” session, on Thursday September 3rd at 2:30pm at the Moscone Center. Virtual Instruments executives are available for interview at the company’s booth #2521 or interviews can be arranged by calling Melissa Lang at (330) 401-9220.
