Virtual Instruments Customer Unilever Recognized for SAN Optimization Excellence

Virtual Instruments and Unilever are recognized by Datacentre Solutions Magazine

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jun 09, 2011 – Virtual Instruments, a leader in storage area network (SAN) and virtual infrastructure optimization solutions, and consumer products leader Unilever were jointly recognized by Datacentre Solutions Magazine as winner of the prestigious ”Enterprise Project of the Year” award. The innovative project was chosen over other finalists due to the immediate and tangible benefits of the Virtual Instruments VirtualWisdom solution within the Unilever SAN and storage infrastructure.

The deployment of VirtualWisdom hardware and software has allowed the global consumer products giant to substantially lower the amount of future SAN and storage requirements due to comprehensive visibility into its SAN infrastructure. In addition to dramatically reduced storage and SAN management costs, the Unilever IT team has been able to greatly improve performance and availability of its SAP and other business-critical applications. Overall, VirtualWisdom has helped eliminate severity 1 problems and enabled the IT team to keep headcount flat as their storage infrastructure continues to grow in excess of 50 percent annually.

Virtual Instruments’ unique real-time understanding of SAN traffic and of the issues that can arise unexpectedly in the I/O infrastructure mean that it was the perfect choice for Unilever when it started deploying server and storage virtualization technology.  While other solutions are able to determine I/O performance is slow, only VirtualWisdom allows users to analyze both real-time and historical performance data across an entire SAN fabric and immediately identify the root-cause of the problem. More importantly, VirtualWisdom enables them to proactively find potential performance and availability before applications and users are affected.

Virtual Instruments was also recently named the winner of Storage Magazine’s 2010 “Product of the Year” in the storage networking equipment category for its SANInsight Tap Patch Panel System.

Bill Dunlop Uprichard, CEO at Angel Business Communications, the DCS awards organizer, said, “The awards are voted by the readers of DCS magazine and this year we had a significant increase in the number of overall votes. All finalists did well in making the shortlist but the Unilever deployment of Virtual Instrument’s VirtualWisdom was the clear winner in its category. ”

Chris James, director of EMEA marketing at Virtual Instruments is proud to have seen the company’s achievements recognized in the industry. “Since the initial installation of VirtualWisdom, Unilever has seen significant OPEX and CAPEX savings and we are proud that our efforts have helped another customer increase productivity and profits.”
